Sexual Health FAQs
Why is routine STI testing important if I feel fine?
Many sexually transmitted infections have no symptoms, but can still cause long‑term complications and be passed to partners. Routine testing based on your risk factors helps detect infections early so they can be treated and transmission reduced.
How often should I be tested for STIs?
Testing frequency depends on your sexual practices, number of partners, and whether you use condoms or PrEP. People with new or multiple partners, men who have sex with men, and those with a history of STIs are often advised to test at least annually and sometimes more often.
Is my sexual health visit confidential?
Sexual health services, including STI testing and HIV prevention, are confidential and protected by privacy laws. Your results are shared only with you and, when appropriate, documented in your medical record to guide your care.
What is PrEP and who should consider it?
PrEP (pre‑exposure prophylaxis) is a medication regimen that significantly lowers the risk of getting HIV when taken as prescribed. It is recommended for people at higher risk of HIV, such as those with HIV‑positive partners, multiple partners, or inconsistent condom use.
Can telehealth visits address concerns like ED, low libido, or painful sex?
Yes, many sexual health concerns can be initially evaluated by telehealth with a detailed history, review of medications, and lab orders when needed. If we identify issues that require an in‑person exam or procedure, we will coordinate appropriate referrals.
